Is Inflammation WRECKING your body?
Here are 5 ways to begin reducing inflammation and swelling!
What is inflammation? It plays a role in either a cause or an effect. We all have inflammation in the body at varying degrees. It is a protective device that helps us detect when we need to address a bodily issue. So the good news is we can control our inflammation with lifestyle adjustments such as diet, exercise, and supplement intake.
1. Avoid as much as possible these 13 foods. Grains (wheat, barley, rice and oats etc.), Alcohol, Sugar, Dairy, Margarine, Grain Fed Beef, Coffee, Artificial Sweeteners, Food Additives (MSG and Sodium Nitrates etc.), Fried Foods, Processed Foods, Regular Salt, and Vegetable Oil. I always tell my patients to just pick 3 to start avoiding now, then slowly work up to all 13 to avoid on a daily basis. Avoiding these inflammatory foods can greatly improve your whole body’s systems right away.
2. Drink more purified water. Decide to go one week with just drinking water as your beverage of choice and see how you feel. A good daily goal of water is 64 oz. or more. As we know water makes up much of our body’s systems. Without adequate intake the body relies on what it has to help your vital organs to function which means you’re more prone for inflammation to build up in your joints and muscles.
3. Get your sweat on. Sweating helps your body reduce inflammation. How you choose to sweat is important. Sweating by way of Infrared Sauna (a service we offer in our office) is incredibly effective for detox. Detoxing inflammatory toxins through exercise is also effective. A daily goal would be to sweat at last 1x per day to assist with the reduction of inflammation and detox.
4. Take your supplements. Many supplements aid in the control of bodily inflammation. Examples are Milk thistle, Boswellia, Ginger Root, Turmeric/Cur-cumin, and Fish oil. By taking these orally you are saturating your body with ingredients designed to target inflammation and assist with clearing it through your lymphatics. Ingredients are key when it comes to supplements. Not all are created equal. Value is better than quantity. Be sure you are buying higher quality supplementation that has gone through proper testing for quality and purification standards. Our office sells pharmaceutical grade and properly tested supplementation.
5. Reducing your stress and increasing your sleep. By reducing your stress you are aiding the body in decreasing your inflammation. Cortisol is a hormone that increases in the body when you are stressed and too much cortisol can cause excess inflammation where you do not want it. How do you de-stress? A few examples are: Prayer and meditation, chiropractic care, sleeping, exercising, sharing about your stress with someone, removing something off your to do list that isn’t that important. Increase your sleep. If you are not getting seven or more hours of restful sleep a night you are more susceptible to inflammation. Studies show that getting less than six hours of sleep was linked to higher inflammatory markers interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein on blood work analysis.
